Our Story
The flagship · Mercedes-Benz Tourrider 57-seater. Maintained in-house since 2019.

Since 2007, we've carried Melbourne somewhere worth going.

Alston Coaches began with a single conviction — that group travel could be done with the same care, precision and quiet luxury usually reserved for private hire. Nineteen years on, that conviction is still the only thing we measure ourselves against.

We’ve grown into a modern fleet serving schools, corporates, wedding parties, sporting clubs and private groups across Victoria and beyond — but we’ve stayed deliberately small enough to know every booking by name. Every coach is maintained in-house. Every chauffeur is chosen by us. Every itinerary is read by a real person before it goes out.

It’s a slower way to run a transport company. It’s also the only way we know how to do it well.

Behind the Scenes

The morning before a journey.

A 7am pickup looks effortless from the kerb. Here's the work that goes into making it look that way — every single departure, no matter the route.

04:45

Yard opens.

Mechanic on site, coffee on. Coaches scheduled for the day are pulled from their bays and parked under the canopy lights for inspection.

05:15

Pre-trip inspection.

Tyres, fluids, lights, brakes, air-con, Wi-Fi, seat belts, emergency exits. Every check signed off before the coach leaves the yard.

05:45

Interior detail.

Vacuumed front-to-back. Windows polished. Headrest covers fresh. Climate set so the cabin is ready before the first passenger boards.

06:30

Coach departs the yard.

Pickup notes, passenger count, accessibility needs, weather, traffic alerts and drop-off sequence are confirmed before departure.

07:00

Your journey begins.

From your side of the kerb, it looks like nothing more than a polished coach pulling up on time.

Routes We Know

Roads we've travelled a thousand times.

Nineteen years of local knowledge means we know which routes are quietest on a Tuesday, which roadworks come back every spring, and where the best photo stop is on the way to the Great Ocean Road.

  • 01 Melbourne CBD Yarra Valley 76 km
  • 02 Melbourne Great Ocean Road 243 km
  • 03 Melbourne Phillip Island 140 km
  • 04 Melbourne Mornington Peninsula 85 km
  • 05 Melbourne Daylesford & the Macedon Ranges 108 km
  • 06 Melbourne Mount Buller 248 km
  • 07 Melbourne Bendigo & Goldfields 152 km
  • 08 Melbourne Airport CBD & Suburbs -
and a great many more. If it's in Victoria, we've likely been there before you.

What we stand for.

Four principles that haven't shifted in nineteen years — and aren't going to. They show up in how we maintain a coach, hire a driver, and answer the phone.

Nº 01 / Care

Family at the wheel.

We're family-owned, family-run, and answer to our own name. Every booking matters because every booking has someone's name on it — including ours.

Nº 02 / Craft

Quietly precise.

Premium isn't loud. It's a coach that's spotless on a weekday morning, a driver who knows the route, and an itinerary read twice before it's confirmed.

Nº 03 / Trust

Reliability, first.

Punctuality is the floor, not the ceiling. Our coaches are maintained in-house, our chauffeurs are chosen by us, and our schedules are built with margin to spare.

Nº 04 / Place

Local, by choice.

We're Melbourne-built and Victoria-bound. Nineteen years of local knowledge means we know which routes are quietest, which stops are worth a photo, and what “on time” really means.

The Alston Standard

What we say yes to. What we won't compromise on.

The clearer we are about both sides, the better the journey ends up being. No surprises, no fine print, no quiet downgrades.

We say yes to

Things we'll always do
  • Pre-dawn departures, late-night returns, and the awkward in-between
  • Itineraries with stops, side-trips, dietary stops and detours
  • Mixed group bookings — wedding parties, schools and corporate groups
  • Accessibility requirements, child seats, and unusual luggage
  • Last-minute changes, where the schedule allows it
  • A real person on the phone, not a chatbot

We won't compromise on

Things we'll always hold
  • Skipping the pre-trip inspection to save time
  • Sending a sub-standard coach when our preferred one is in service
  • Pairing a route with a chauffeur unfamiliar with it
  • Hidden surcharges or last-minute pricing surprises
  • Driver fatigue — we'd rather decline the booking than break the rules
  • Quietly downgrading a coach class once the booking is confirmed

Who books an Alston coach.

Three of the people we've quietly served, again and again, over the past nineteen years. The occasions change. The standard does not.

Nº 01 · Schools & Education

The school principal running an excursion.

Forty-eight year-nines, two teachers, one quiet kid with a peanut allergy, and a 7:30am departure that absolutely cannot slip.

  • Excursion charters
  • Sports & carnival transport
  • End-of-year camps
Nº 02 · Weddings & Private

The bride getting her family across town.

Thirty-two guests, three pickup points, a tight ceremony window, and a maid of honour who keeps changing her mind about the shoes.

  • Wedding party transfers
  • Guest shuttle services
  • Multi-stop itineraries
Nº 03 · Corporate & Conference

The conference organiser with 200 delegates.

A three-day program, two hotels, one venue, and guests expecting a polished executive transfer experience. Every coach has to be on time, every time.

  • Conference shuttles
  • Executive airport transfers
  • Corporate roadshows
The Family Behind the Fleet

A small family business, by design.

We’ve had every chance to grow large and impersonal — and we’ve actively chosen not to. The Alston team is deliberately compact: a tight group of chauffeurs, mechanics, planners and a family that still answers the phone after hours.

That’s the whole point. The reason we’ve kept loyal clients across nineteen years isn’t a marketing pitch. It’s that the same care that shaped the business in the beginning still shapes every journey today.
